Hephzibah Wood, her daughter, Katherine Sumpter, and granddaughter, Marigold Broadwater, of Augusta, Georgia, became one of the wealthiest families in America.

They were, without question, the most haunted.

There are those who walk the halls of the Wood home who hear voices no one else hears, or see spirits within every shadow.

Guilt is a friend of the past, madness is a frequent guest of the present, and neither wealth nor power can provide comfort.

Idioms

Curiosity killed the cat. That’s how this book got started, only when I heard the phrase, I didn’t think that someone had gotten into trouble for asking the wrong question, or found out something that they shouldn’t have by asking too many questions. I wondered who Curiosity was and why did they kill the cat? Did they not like cats? Was it an accident? Were they bad pet owners, just bad people, or even worse, murderers of some kind?

As you can see, the questions were many, and I immediately saw stories in these much used phrases. Only not like the way you are used to thinking about them.

I think you will find these short stories very entertaining which elicit a grimace and or a shock once or twice, a smile or a tear or two,  a burst of laughter, and many “I didn’t see that coming", thoughts!

Have fun...

The Cures

"Science had cured cancer and many other horrible diseases. It was the beginning of a new world. But sometimes when you ignore the protocols, the cures become worse than the disease.

And then there's nature. She always makes more changes than can ever be anticipated. Especially when man is corrupted by their free will."

Grimmer Folk Stories

The stories known as Grimm's Fairy Tales have had figurative childproof locks applied to their pages by smart writers using fairy dust and a knowledge that within those stories were indeed vivid tales of imagination. But unlike the child friendly versions you may be familiar with, these stories reflect a darker vision that I think the Brothers Grimm would have preferred. I don't recommend reading these folk stories to children unless you want them to have nightmares. Then by all means.....

Irritable Vowels

A look at my world and the world around us framed within the world of verse. I think you will find that some of these poems will relate to you on a personal level, and when that occurs, I hope you find laughter, recapture a distant memory that makes you smile, and when possible, provide you hope. I think you will enjoy the journey.

Litter

The Brodie family had just moved to Augusta, Georgia. Sean was coming there for his dream job as the COO of a local hospital. His wife, Maggie, and their son, Connor, weren’t enthusiastic about moving, but when they saw the gated community, Maggie believed she had found her dream home. Connor was excited about the woods and the large pond, which appeared to be a perfect environment for a teenager fond of snakes.

With Sean’s encouragement, Maggie and Connor said they would put their best foot forward when interacting with their new neighbors. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen when they met Beth. Maggie and Beth clashed from the very beginning and as Maggie was prone to do, she formed an opinion of Beth that would never enable them to be friends.

My new novel ‘Litter’ is a suspenseful thriller and has many twists and turns that leave you wanting to find out what happens next.  Secrets abound behind every door and smiling faces don't necessarily reflect good intentions.  The Sycamore Springs subdivision in Augusta, Georgia is filled with southern charm. In fact, it may charm you to death.

Crossroads

Crossroads is a collection of horror short stories that are written in a manner to shock the senses of the reader. The imagery takes you into a world you enter at your own risk. The stories are linked by a demonic presence that goes through the world collecting souls for hell and, at times, refining the twisted souls on earth into something even more evil and perverse. Horror fans will love how the stories and images linger in their mind and elevate their enjoyment of the genre, and if you're a horror fan that loves to read at night, you're welcome. Nightmares these stories prompt don't happen all the time. Be afraid. Be very afraid....

Intersections

'Intersections' is a collection of ghost stories, unique individualized stories, unconnected except to suggest there might be other worlds or dimensions that are all around us, revealed to a select few whose actions provoke a response. There are ghosts within these stories who show us that love or betrayal can extend beyond the grave. These are stories that reveal to us that there are angelic as well as demonic manifestations here on earth; ones that we wish we could see but fail to do so, and ones that we see and regret that we did. If you are like most people, you'll read 'Intersections' in bed, just before you fall asleep. Just remember, when you're in the REM stages of sleep, those times when you dream, your body is paralyzed. You may want to consider that if you are trying to get away from a disturbing presence you recently encountered.

The Dread Literary Review

The Dread Literary Review

Check out my latest short story published in The Dread Literary Review magazine. As you can guess from the title of the magazine, things may go bump in the night in these stories. My story, The Mercy Brown Vampire Hoax, was based upon a real event which occurred in the 1800’s with the Brown family. I just added a little “unknown fact” which failed to be reported the first time.
